San Antonio Digestive Disease Consultants, PA (SADDC) is a group practice consisting of three Board Certified Gastroenterologists. Ricardo A. Hernandez, MD, Steven E. Hearne, MD and Clinton D. Polhamus, MD.

Gastroenterology is a subspecialty of Internal Medicine. A Gastroenterologist is a doctor who specializes and focuses with problems and diseases of the digestive system and liver. This includes organs such as esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, small bowel, colon and rectum. Some of the common problems that Gastroenterologist treat includes: abdominal pain, ulcers, hepatitis, spastic colon, rectal bleeding, pancreatitis, diarrhea, gallbladder and liver disorders. 

San Antonio Digestive Disease Consultants was formed by Dr. Ricardo Hernandez in 1985. Dr. Steven Hearne joined our practice in 1989 and Dr. Clinton Polhamus in 2005.  Together, they have committed themselves in providing quality professional services in the Gastroenterology specialty for 30+ years.

 

Dr. Ricardo A. Hernandez

Dr. Ricardo Hernandez is a native from San Antonio, TX. He is a graduate from the medical school at the University of California, Davis. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio in 1984 and then completed an additional two-year fellowship in Gastroenterology also at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio. Dr. Hernandez is a Board Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and in the subspecialty of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Hernandez is a member of American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, American Gastroenterology Association, Bexar County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, Texas Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and Mexican-American Hispanic Physicians’ Association.

 

Dr. Steven E. Hearne

Dr. Steven Hearne is from San Antonio.  A graduate from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio in 1987 and then completed an additional two-year fellowship in Gastroenterology also at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio. Dr. Hearne is a Board Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and in the subspecialty of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Hearne is a member of The Texas Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society of Gastrointestinal Association, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Texas Medical Association, and Bexar County Medical Society and is an Assistant Professor for the Department of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio.

 

Dr. Clinton D. Polhamus

Dr. Clinton Polhamus has practiced in San Antonio for over 18 years.  As a physician in the United States Air Force, he provided 11 years of medical service in the military and 7 years as a civilian. He is a graduate from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas,  He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Wright Patterson USAF Medical Center, Ohio in 1980. 

He completed an additional two-year fellowship in Gastroenterology at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, Lackland AFB, Texas in 1992. Dr. Polhamus is a Board Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and in the subspecialty of Gastroenterology. He holds credentials in most endoscopic procedures such as ERCP (bile duct work), upper endoscopy (examination of the swallowing tube and stomach) and colonoscopy (examination of the large intestine). He also holds credentials in the performance of liver biopsy. 

Dr. Clinton D. Polhamus is member of American Gastroenterological Association, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American College of Gastroenterology, Texas Medical Association, Bexar County Medical Society and American College of Physicians.
